If ever a quote was appropriate, today’s certainly is. I awoke with a start at 4am, my hand burning like it was stuck with a red-hot poker, and swollen. It got worse as the day went on. After a trip to the doctor, and an outbreak of a nasty rash was followed by another call to the doctor, the verdict is a combination of elevation, or the lack thereof, and an allergic reaction likely caused by the cleanser used during the surgery. The antidote? There isn’t one. I started antibiotics after the first visit, keeping the hand on ice and above the heart, and that’s about all that can be done. I’ll take an allergic reaction over an infection any day. Life: it’s a swollen gift today and I’m tickled to be in it.
