I was talking to Tucker and Tamatha Lykins when someone tapped me on my shoulder. She said, “I’m sorry to interrupt, but I just wanted to say hi.” You could have knocked me down: It was Meg Adkins. I hadn’t seen Meg since I graduated from High School back in the stone age. It might actually be longer than that since she’s probably six or seven years younger. I know her family very well. Her brother Kevin, with Carla Whitaker, tutored me in photography when I started with the yearbook staff my freshman year of high school. Her sister Patsy was a year ahead of me, and her sister Joanie was a year behind me. Her parents, Jimmy and Bina Sue, are salt of the earth people, active in Morgan County for as long as I can remember, and grew up with my mother. I even have a picture on my dresser from the 1973 Sorghum Parade that shows the Girl Scout float I was on. Bina Sue was our troop leader, and there in the passenger seat of the truck is tiny Meg with her head hanging out the window. My best memories of Meg are when she wasn’t much bigger than she was in that picture. She was a petit child, cute as a button, and sweet as the day is long. She grew up to be pretty much the same. She’s an audiologist at UK Med Center doing extensive work with Cochlear implants. We’ve worked just a few blocks from one another for years, but I’d never seen her as an adult until that moment at Market in the Park. We exchanged pleasantries then she took her leave. I had the long lens on the camera, so I couldn’t do a shot with her so near. I excused myself from Tucker and Tamatha, and began to stalk Meg. When she was finally far enough away I hollered her name. After the surprise wore off, she was sweet enough to flash me that kind smile she has always had. I’m very proud of Meg, and feel really blessed that she sought me out to say hello. I must be living right.

Wow! What great things to say about a great family! Best neighbor’s ever and the kind of friends that no matter how far apart you are or how long the period between visits become, it’s still the “same” everytime you meet!!! Love them all dearly from the depths of my soul.

I’d love to see that picture on your dresser! I believe that Meg’s pre-Girl Scout title was “pixie” which suited her very well. Love my baby sister so good!
    Thanks for the memories!

I don’t presently have a scanner, but let me see if I can manage another way to share “Pixie” lol

While I’m undoubtedly unworthy to be in the Outhouse, I’m entirely elated to be here! Thank You Kopana, for the honor! You inspire us through the images You capture with Your lens and the words that so beautifully frame those images… Thank You for all You do and share!

If I was a person prone to crying, that would make me cry! Thank YOU for finding me (and letting me take your picture…not that I gave you much of a choice LOL)!!!!!

Meg Adkins walked into my life a couple of years ago and I count myself exceedingly blessed because of it. She is absolutely the most giving person I know and enriches my life beyond measure.
