reflecting on the past

We drove home by way of Cade’s Cove, Tennessee. We stopped at the Gregg-Cable House and farm. Dad told me a lot about his grandfather Prater’s grist mill at the head of Railroad Fork, as well as his saw mill and myriad barns and outbuildings. It’s interesting watching him look back on the way things used to be. He didn’t talk about it much until recently because he did a lot of work on the farm and in the mills. He’s a tough guy who has worked since he was a very little boy. I’m glad he’s sharing. I’m all ears.

I believe that he was an uncle to my grandmother, Hazel Prater Terry. Her father was Arby Prater. Arby and John Reese were brothers. My dad and his siblings called him Uncle Reese. Are you also a descendent of Reese Prater?
