“To share your weakness is to make yourself vulnerable;
to make yourself vulnerable is to show your strength.”
~ Criss Jami
I was privileged to be a small part of the opening day of The Girl Project thanks to my day job with the Nunn Center for Oral History. A few years ago, directors Vanessa Becker Weig and Ellie Clark (below) had an idea. Using theater and the arts, they would build a year-long program that would empower teenage girls to combat derogatory ways we’re conditioned to see ourselves. Their idea came to fruition last year, and it was so successful that today marked the start of year two, with even more young ladies participating from even more area schools than last year. The girls: some tall, some short, some thin, some wide, all deep in character and desire, they have to peel themselves wide open, become vulnerable and raw. It’s a mighty thing to do, scary and rewarding. Vanessa and Ellie had a great idea and I’m tickled pink to help.
