Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money ~ Cree Proverb

the most excellent chef

This is Mamadou Savané. He’s from Kindia, Guinea in West Africa. His wife was in the Peace Corps there, and that’s where they met. He came back to the states with her and was soon cooking for friends and family. Apparently, they encouraged him to open a restaurant. So, he did. It’s called Sav’s Grill and West African Cuisine. He serves some of the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten. He has filled the small space with beautiful paintings and artwork of Africa; the decor as colorful as the African landscape. As a bonus, Sav is one of the nicest people you will ever met. His smile is infectious. His kindness a cut above the rest.

Go. Try his food when you’re in Lexington. I promise that you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I recommend the peanut chicken over fufu. It’s good enough to make ya wanna slap yer granny.

Crystal turned me on to Sav’s so, it’s only fitting that we often eat there together. Today, as we dined with our friend, Kathryn Lybarger, I caught her doing this. It was a double-the-fun kinda day for me!!!

Here’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna eat at Sav’s. Never have before, but now I’m gonna, just because of this blog. Thanks Ko.
