“Would you become a pilgrim on the road of love?
The first condition is that you make yourself humble as dust and ashes.”

I noticed something walking with Wally in the snow. It was the constant criss-cross of footprints along the way. His tracks, my tracks, another dog’s tracks, another person’s tracks, a cat, a possum, even a bunny walked the sidewalk at one point. All of these tracks were going in the same direction, but they weren’t in a straight line. They intersected, walked parallel for a ways, then went their separate ways. They did this multiple times throughout the walk. They illustrated to me our relationships to one another throughout our lives. We converge, walk a ways with one another, go our separate ways. Many of us intersect again at some point in the future. Sometimes we never meet again. Some people walk with us for only a short time. Some people walk beside us our entire lives. No matter how brief or long those footprints stay beside you, they’re important to your journey. There’s a connection at that moment, and that connection has meaning. I have so many people who have walked a long way with me, but the people who walked a short distance were/are no less significant. Every set of prints is a blessing.
