This is the Illinois River at Hanging Rock, not far from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. When Ang drove me to the airport we passed this same location. Heavy rains had been falling for two days by then, and the river had swelled a good ten feet above this placid vision. Water is a mighty force, even when it’s still. Little wonder, then, that Native Americans cherish it so. The world should follow their lead and respect water – the Earth – for the life giving force that it is. <steps off soapbox>
