Joyce Bliss is one of the finest women I know. Decades ago, when I first came to Tahlequah, she went out with a posse of us girls. Over the course of the evening I began to call her Woo Woo. Long story that involved margaritas I think (Ang will remember better than I). Anyway, I loved Joyce immediately and I’ve called her ‘Woo Woo’ ever since. I do my best to go see her at least once when I’m in town.

On my last trip, we took Woo Woo to breakfast. She’s as funny as ever, and, obviously, she raised a pretty funny daughter. The thing about mothers (from a woman’s perspective, anyway) is that they can push all your buttons. After all, they put them there. As Anne Lamott said, “I love my mother, but sometimes I want to stick a fork in her forehead.” But nobody will be your biggest fan, or take up for you like your mother. That’s Joyce Bliss for sure. They’ve been through a lot together, Joyce and Angie. They’re just so darn cute when they’re together. I’m tickled they have one another. Plus, I get two friends out of the deal. I think I’m the big winner in this crowd.
