doctor best

Yesterday was such a big day that it takes two posts to cover it. My beloved doctor Barbara Fleming-Phillips is retiring from general practice at the end of the month. I was lucky enough to see her one last time yesterday. Not only did I get an excellent report (I’m healthy as a horse), but we had a great talk as well, which is one of the things I love about her. When she first came in the door, she asked how I was. I looked sad, made a little boo boo lip, and replied, “I’m happy and sad to be here. It’s our last time.” Then she looked sad, too. It’s true that I’m really, really, really going to miss her. She’s been the best doctor I’ve ever had. Still, I can’t help but be happy for her. She has an opportunity to work part time in the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center, and she’s earned the right to move on, be happy, and have a great life. Her replacement has big shoes to fill, that’s for sure. I hope our paths cross again someday because Barbara Fleming-Phillips is one of the finest people I’ve ever know.
