You do not pass through this life, it passes through you.
You experience it, you interpret it, you act, and then it is different.

I’ve mentioned before Lexington’s great collaborative art team of Kremena Todorova and Kurt Gohde. I interviewed them years ago for the now defunct arts and music program, Tonic. This past year, they gathered 250 volunteers who agreed to be tattooed with a few words each from a poem by poet Bianca Spriggs. Her poem is called The ___________ of the Universe: A Love Story. The project is called the Lexington Tattoo Project. Cooler still, each person’s tattoo will be photographed, but only when they’re stitched into a single image will the hidden message be revealed. (I suspect that’s what the ___________ is, but I could be wrong.) I just think it’s one of the most creative public art projects ever done, and I’m so proud of everyone involved (Gohde, Todorova, Spriggs, Ben Sollee, tattooists Robert Alleyne and Jay Armstrong at Charmed Life Tattoo, and the 250 adventurous volunteers). In a city of over 300,000 people, in the last six weeks I’ve met two of the participants: Sarah Wylie Ammerman-Smith VanMeter, whom I did not photograph, and Santana Berry, above. Further proof that I must be living right!
