“I want to remind everyone to speak your heart to those you love. Give them smiles, hugs, and encouragement. Listen to them. Put your phones and tablets down. Be present. Always try to be present. Because one day when you least expect it, they could be gone. So love your people! Find your joy! Treat yourself to the same love you share, and remember how easy it is to be kind.”
~ Angie Bliss Fanning
The last church listed in the Tourism pamphlet was the Old Stone Meeting House in rural Clark County. The segment reads, “Old Stone Meeting House in rural Clark County east of Lexington is the oldest constituted Baptist Church in Kentucky. Old Stone was founded in 1792 by one of the traveling Baptist churches from Virginia. Daniel Boone and his family are thought to have attended services here. Today the church is home to Providence Baptist.”
Stacy and I went on a bit of a wild goose chase yesterday because both Google Maps and Map Quest confused Providence Baptist and Providence Missionary Baptist. A bit more research, and a historical marker, helped us find the right church today. Unfortunately, like the Old Mud Meeting House in Harrodsburg, the Old Stone Meeting House is caged like a wild animal behind a fence and ‘no trespassing’ signs. I take these road blocks as a sign that it’s time for me to start talking to the preachers and gaining access to the inside of the structures where the worship really hits a high note. Things are getting exciting and so very beautiful.
