I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.” ~ Gilda Radner

Kiya came to town to try out her new one woman show, “True Tall Tales from the American Edge.” She’s taking it to The Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland later this year. She’s basically taken the most historic songs she’s written and weaved them into a lyrical novel that’s both funny and heart wrenching. The collection highlights the lives of America’s famous, and sometimes infamous, characters, brilliantly crafted by a wordsmith whose been overlooked as one of America’s best songwriters for nearly 30 years. Call me biased, but there are very few songwriters of any generation or continent who can string together stories as melodically, as intricately, as accessibly as Kiya. Her songs have always moved me, but it’s a real blessing to see her finally on the edge of greatness. I can’t wait for the world to hear these songs, and thank her kindly for them. She deserves it.
