“No matter how little your light is, let it shine.” ~ Saji Ijiyemi

from the outside

Deb took us by the former home of Churchill Weavers in Berea. If you’re not familiar, Churchill Weavers opened in the 1920’s by, who else – Mr. and Mrs. Churchill. They’d been missionaries in India where they came to respect finely woven materials. Back in Kentucky, Mr. Churchill built the looms and Mrs. Churchill provided the designs. Their wares became known the world over and they were located right here in tiny Berea, Kentucky. After many decades, The Churchill’s sold their highly respected and successful company to other Berea locals. They eventually sold it to a company in Atlanta, Georgia who then managed to lose money from the company, forcing it to close its doors in 2007 after 85 years. It broke a lot of hearts around here, and around the world I suspect. Today, the building is used for special occasions like weddings and such, but mostly, instead of large looms making beautiful cloth, it’s just large empty rooms. I wish I could have seen it when it was in full operation. I bet it was something to see.
