“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” ~ Joseph Campbell

My heart is so very, very, very sad today. The passing this morning of my old, dear friend Kenny Lykins in his sleep has cut me to the bone. We had more long talks – and long walks –  than I can even remember. He was smarter than he ever gave himself credit, and he was one of the most honest men I’ve ever known. The photo above I first posted nearly three years ago, September 11, 2016. That was also the last time I saw him. Despite the decades that had passed, in the middle of a Cannel City crowd, we resumed our old conversational ways leaving me, and hopefully him, too, with a meaningful exchange that sadly now will have to last me from now on. Kenny and I always had a good time together. I don’t know what more I could ask for, really, though I had genuinely hoped to grow old with Kenny still in my life so we could laugh about how fat and grey we’d gotten, knowing full well we would do so while yelling over AC/DC. Kenny has always held a special place in my heart. That will never change. My folks love him, too. We love that whole Lykins/Dalton gang, in fact. Small communities can create these bonded families and I am eternally grateful that. For all of it, Kenny especially.
