Marilyn hugs

Two weeks ago today Tanya Comingdeer and Marilyn Craig were enjoying a second day of music and fellowship at the 2-Pony Ranch. These women worked their butts off to make that weekend happen. They cooked, they cleaned, they tugged and pushed and pulled and carried and worked up a sweat to make sure everyone had the things they needed. I think I’ve said before, on that Sunday, I had one of my classic nasty migraines that kept me in bed most of the day though I did make myself get up and go out for most of the music. As the sun began to set I returned to my convalescent room and drifted off. At some point I either dreamed or heard a real voice outside my door say something like, “Okay, girlfriends, the place is clean.” I awoke Monday morning to find that, indeed, the place had been cleaned and then realized the voice had probably been real. Angie said Marilyn and Tanya had done the work. If that’s not incredible love and devotion I don’t know what is. I am so, so, so, so, so fortunate to know these women and count them among my friends, and I’m eternally grateful they look after Angie and each other.

This is Jerry Hammond’s garage with its front doors flung open. I could spend a week with it and still find hidden gems just waiting to be photographed. It is a photo geek’s dream, well, at least this photo geek’s dream.

Jerry is a welder and puts it to good use. On the left is the old peddle car he’s turning into a stroller. On the right is a wood burning stove fashioned in the shape of a twin lens reflex camera. I cannot wait to see that when it’s finished! I started smiling when I saw that big motorcycle in the yard. 850 miles and four days later and I’m still smiling. What a gift.

The Hammonds
The Hammonds

I don’t know how I never managed to meet Jerry and Dianne Hammond over all these years, especially since we have a ton of mutual friends. Finally meeting them I chalk up to more of Jerry Fanning’s magic. They’re wonderful people with the biggest hearts imaginable. They’re both incredibly creative folks, too: right up my alley. These photos are just a sample of how awesome their homestead is (you’ll see more in the coming days).

The Hammond’s dog pack alone is something to behold, and there’s just something so joyful about finding the Bassett Hound atop one of Jerry’s tables. I could talk to them for weeks and never get tired of hearing the stories. Meeting them was such a needed light during a dark week. How grateful I am to call them friends.
