“Stop criticizing yourself for everything you aren’t and start appreciating yourself for everything you are.” ~ Unknown

to Upper Street

This old house, somewhat restored at least on the outside, sits between Upper Street and Morris Ally. Its closest neighbor is the old Antioch Christian Church that I talked about back in 2014. I’d love to know some history on this place. It’s on a large lot that clearly once had a larger building on it. Or perhaps this is what’s left of a larger building. Whatever the case, I hope to learn more about it eventually. I love these old places.

“There is no greater wealth in this world than peace of mind.” ~ TinyBuddha

self portrait at night

With the time change last Sunday I now leave work at dark. I think campus is especially groovy in the early evenings. The buildings have a warm glow about them, and tiny packs of students scurry around me as I walk to the garage. This week, the University is supporting Alzheimer’s awareness by lighting some key buildings in purple. Naturally, I pulled out my camera and captured a few of them, like Holmes Hall seen here under the purple accent light. I absolutely love photos at night, and my reflection in the walkway window provided a nice addition to an otherwise ordinary street scene (even with the Holmes Hall purple accent it’s pretty ordinary). I think I’m going to enjoy these nighttime walks to the car.

The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” ~ Plutarch

alley back in time

A scene caught my eye that I never noticed before, though I’ve passed it a hundred times. This shotgun house sits parallel to the Transylvania University ball field. It’s dwarfed by the brick fence, larger Bluegrass Trust homes, and Hazelrigg Hall. Everything about it was crooked. Everything about it was cool. I’d be pleased to sit on its front porch.
