“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

It is a rare thing as a supervisor to have every single person in the office be just the most awesome people ever. It is a rare thing as a co-worker to have every single person in the office be just the most awesome people ever. I am the luckiest supervisor and coworker you’ve likely met because I am surrounded by awesome.

Nathan Moore happens to be one of the finest and smartest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. Today was his last day with us before he heads to graduate school in Buffalo, NY. Former intern (as of last week), world traveler, dedicated tennis player, and Berea College student Christine Gilbert-Crawford, right, got cheated out of her going away lunch last week because I was a too-busy-airhead. Being the super awesome friend and coworker she is, she drove in from Berea (no small thing on move-in day) to join us for lunch. And because I was a too-busy-airhead last week, we also missed Danielle Gabbard’s, left, birthday. So, today we celebrated all three of them!

I gotta say that Christine and Nathan were an absolute joy to be around. They were always happy, and they were happy together. I can only hope their replacements are half as sweet and fun as they were. I feel like a mom sending my kids off to college. Fortunately, I don’t get their tuition bills. I’m so very fortunate in so many ways, not the least of which are all these awesome people.

“May Light always surround you;
Hope kindle and rebound you.
May your Hurts turn to Healing;
Your Heart embrace Feeling.
May Wounds become Wisdom;
Every Kindness a Prism.
May Laughter infect you;
Your Passion resurrect you.
May Goodness inspire
your Deepest Desires.
Through all that you Reach For,
May your arms Never Tire.”

I had the most amazing day. Here is a selfie as my Kentucky Tribe sang Happy Birthday: (starting from the left side of the table) Eric, Riley, and Heidi Morrow, Deb Chenault, Susan Stewart, Catherine Brereton, Annie Bassoni, Ruth Bryant, Reinette Jones, Kathy Schifflett, Vanessa Oliver, Greg Davis, Sandy Davis, Crystal Heis, Stacy Yelton, Tracy Hawkins, Lori-lyn Hurley, Duane Krieble, Jeanne Marie Hibbard, Becky Ryder, and Bryan, Abby, and Jen Bartlett. They all joined me for lunch at Jalepeno’s, and if I ever doubted they loved me, they came to lunch during a UK Wildcats basketball game. Now, that’s love! Heidi made a delicious red velvet cake, and I was overwhelmed by the thoughtful gifts, and kind words from my friends. As soon as I left The Tribe, I met my family for our belated Christmas get together. Mike, Missy, and Macie Moore, Lois Wilson, Barbara Schirmer, Charlene Vest, Rhonda Dedic, Renee, AJ, and Adam Watkins, and Eric, Jessica, Logan, and Lyndsey Stigall surprised me with a birthday cake, too!! Then, they also sang happy birthday and showered me with cards and gifts and kindness. I had a planned party, and a surprise party. To say that I had a day filled with love from beginning to end would be an understatement. In fact, there aren’t words enough to describe how happy each and every one of these people have made me, or how important they are to my life. This has been the best birthday ever.

To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself. ” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

impromptu comedy

Another stellar lunch was had with two of my all-time favorite people, Becky Ryder and Marie Dale. We were entertained by the faux-comedy of one particular cashier who, in a very loud voice for all the land to hear, called each and every customer baby, baby doll, doll, honey, sweetie, sweetie pie, sugar, and other tasty names. The gorgeous grounds of Keeneland isn’t a comedy, though. It’s like looking at heaven while you’re eating.

Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has many – not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” ~ Charles Dickens

the many faces of Crys

I love the lunches I’ve had lately. For the first time in recent memory, Crystal and I had lunch without anyone else. It was good. It was better than good. It was important. It was not a rehashing of office talk. It was not a blathering of insignificant nonsense. It was not a strained attempt to fill dead air. It was two friends talking about life and things to look forward to. We’ve been friends for 20 years. Who wouldn’t be friends with a woman that makes such an array of faces? Me thinks we need more friend lunches.
