Today the world got a little less bright when Allen Smith walked through the door to the other side. He took with him a lifetime of love for, and from, many people. I was lucky to be one of them. I never saw him without a smile on his face and a kind word. He was genuinely one of the finest people I’ve ever known. The last conversation we had, as we talked about his fast advancing cancer, he said, “I feel like I’m talking about someone else. It hasn’t even sunk in that it’s me we’re talking about.” That was less than a month ago. I loved Allen. He loved me. We said so before we said goodbye. This life is short, folks. Tell your people you love them. Be kind to one another. And don’t forget to live while you’re alive.
