There’s a parking lot next to Gratz Park Inn that used to be a building. Rather than tear it down to dirt and pave it over, they just left the cement floor. The front of the building nearest the sidewalk still holds the old floor tile. I find it fascinating. Ever since the tornado I find myself drawn to this kind of thing; ghosts of what used to be. I don’t remember the building that was here. I’m left to imagine the feet that walked this floor, the people who did polite business, the cranes that tossed the walls into dust. I love history.
