I got to hang out with one of my favorite people today; Judi Jennings. She gave an inspiring presentation, turning it into a piece of performance art of sorts, which I thought absolutely brilliant. Most of the presentations at OHA are people reading their papers rather than presenting on their papers. In keeping with that methodology Judi read her paper, but she very smartly tapped some audience members ahead of time to read quotes. The funniest part of all was when she quoted Don Ritchie and Don Ritchie, siting in the audience, read his own quote. It got big laughs.
You might recall that I had the pleasure to meet Donald Ritchie just a few weeks ago when he stopped by for an interview in Lexington. He and Judi are long-time pals, but Judi and Don’s wife, Anne Campbell Ritchie, go back even further. At tonight’s awards reception I had the opportunity to meet her. I was stunned to learn that she already knew who I was from my Stealin Horses days. I think I blushed. Both she and Don were so kind to me, but I would expect no less of Judi’s close friends. Judi is just such a blessing to me, and to so many other people, not just in Kentucky but across the country. I love and respect her from the bottom of my heart. Always have. Always will.
