“To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” ~ Bessie Anderson Stanley

when they don’t know you’re looking

Jimmy Darrell Easterling is a life member of Morgan County DAV Chapter 132. He’s also the jailer in Morgan County and one of mom and dad’s best friends. I got several good shots of Jimmy Darrell when I photographed the DAV during the Sorghum Parade in 2014. This is my favorite. He was busy waving to the kids lining the road and had no idea I could see him. Those are my favorite shots. Serving one’s country doesn’t have to end after discharge, and I really admire DAV members like Jimmy Darrell for their continued service. They do a lot of good things for their fellow vets and their local communities.
