Big Blue Madness camping started this week. If you’re a Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan you don’t need an explanation. If you’re not a fan, I don’t think I can explain it. Follow the link, watch the video. I wouldn’t do it, but it does lend a certain carnival atmosphere to campus that I rather enjoy. I also like that the University supports the event. It’s good for business. And since Kentucky has no professional teams, save for baseball farm clubs, it’s the closest thing we’ve got to pro sport excitement.

Below was my first up-close look at the Joe B. Hall statue unveiled this week as part of the Big Blue Madness buildup. It sits in front of the controversial ‘Wildcat Coal Lodge‘. I fully support coal miners. I have a real hard time supporting coal operators because of how horrible they’ve historically, and presently, treated the miners and environment. As much as I love UK basketball, it’s not worth prostituting an institution of higher learning for their money; a deal that insisted ‘coal’ be part of the building’s name, replete with lobby exhibit of the business. I try not to judge, but it’s hard to ignore such perversion. On the good side, it’s a lovely sculpture. (There’s always a silver lining)
